Hippy Chickie...

OmCrochet! Reminding y'all just how much I love granny squares! For me, they are mindless relaxing fun! I started this blanket after months of drooling over my friend Gina's knitted ripple blanket that has a name in Gaelic that I can't pronounce, much less spell! Oh it is B. E. A. U. Tiful! Well...I cannot knit. She then started a granny blanket and I was in! I can do them...in my sleep I can do them! So...I had already been stockpiling Bernat Mosaic for something glorious...maybe I would do a ripple or some other row blanket...nope boring for me. I HAD TO HAVE A BLANKET MADE WITH SELF STRIPING YARN! So happy to share my pretty pretty rainbowy happy blankie! Hope you enjoy her as much as I do!

She is 51"x62", 9 colorways, 12 balls, and 2 skeins of a solid join/border/hug. Colors are psychedelic, calypso, gamut, vivid, mineral, ninja, medusa, budgie, & pink poodle.

Hope...

First...sadly I ask y'all to lift your fellow living beings up in prayer. So many heartwrenching things happening around us!

Now, I finished my first non-family commissioned blankie! She got her and she was thrilled. This blankie was a hard one for this 30 year crocheter to wrap her head around! My heidi blossom was to be used but I had to change the design. Turn it into an applique because we needed the back to look as good as the front. So very hard to do in crochet...colors had to change just so, or the back would be splotchy. Then I used a smaller hook than ever...this means more squares and more stitching. And sewing....ewwww! Oh but she turned out glorious!

Hoping you do it right...hoping that you please your customer...hoping you keep your joy while you work...hoping you put enough prayers in your knots...lawsy it was a rough road. And one worth the journey times 56! Hope...if you have it you know...

Great hope lives here...for tomorrows, for today, for you, for them, for us!

No fear year...

My, my, my that has been the goal this year...scared? Just do it!

January 2012 I never would have dreamed that I would be getting my life out here in the blogosphere, much less actually putting my imagination out here. My art was always something that just gave me an inner peace. It wasn't good enough for others...I think we all have doubts. Still I think, meh maybe this will be loved but probably not. The change is...I show you anyway!

Soooo...just jump because you are worth it! You are beautiful and what you are needs to be shared!

This blankie was commissioned because of my love of a birthday gift, a special crochet hook. I designed the petals with that hook, named the square after the lady who thought enough of me to give the hook. Heidi Blossom! Met a lady who loves dogwoods as much as I love daisies...so Teresa's Treasure was born. Through many changes and what can I do's to make this appropriate for her this is the sequence of the blankie. Reversible, and ready now...I will show you after she gets her but...tease...

Always believe in your heart you CAN then you will!

Simply Knotting Knots...

As I sit this rainy day, I was thinking how glorious it is that I was given the gift of knots. There is so much joy and freedom in 'just' knotting.

My first Christmas gift as a married woman was this blanket across the back of the chair...Christmas Eve 1983...my mother in love gave it to her son and I for the foot of our bed. Still after all these years looks absolutely gorgeous, after many arguments, after divorces, after marriages, after deaths, after dreams, it sure does still shine! Upon closer looks you see some pills, a few tails may have come out but isn't that the way of life? The perception of what is?

The folded blanket I made last spring, a journey out of order. I like order, pattern, rhyme and reason. No two squares are the same...the only sameness is the hugs of each square which also holds each different together...just like our memories and our dreams each different each held by same. Same reasons, same loving, same living...

Knotting brings my heart to you, it helps me save those feelings and wrap you in love. Wrap my dreams and hopes for your happiness all into one simple little space. That is my simple little goal to give you a memory a joy a simple cluster of knotting love.

Subjective or just beautiful?

Had a super stress filled weekend...puppy so sick...yard hip deep in spots...hubby leaving town...birthday celebrations...the list that never ends! And then by God's grace I saw a picture of a square made by a friend's son for a memory blanket. I am in a group of glorious people who make memory blankets for parents who have lost a child. His mama gave me permission to use his picture.

I think the greatest gift is seeing through their eyes, joy, compassion, love, hope, faith...the knowing that we have an opportunity to help them grow and through their growth, we too grow.

Art is subjective to dealers and critics...to me it is just love in solid touchable form. There is beauty all around us in every breath we take...taking a second to see it...that's the story!

This blanket suggestions were Bible stories and this square is powerful to me! Thank you Benjamin! You shared some serious love with me today!

Take your moments to see, really see!

Hugs,
~pam

Gilly's Spring

Last spring, I found this story of welcoming spring so endearing that I hold it close to my heart and watch for daffodils along my way. Gilly counts them and keeps track of their journey through their short little cycle of beauty. I bought a few tiny containers and posted pictures of them from my city just for her smiles.

The kitty, Miyu Neko, needed a granny touch of warmth, mama Gilly will be so excited! I hope!

Enjoy your day today warm your hearts with childhood joy. Take a moment to see the world through their eyes...you might just smile that warm fuzzy smile.

Some fun just to see...

Gifts, they are always on my mind. Gifts of love made with love, given for love, only useful in your heart. I love seeing eyes light when that perfect make is shared.

This year, for my granddaughter's 4th birthday, I made a flock of tiny owls for her to give to her party guests. The pattern is a freebie from A Morning Cup of Jo. Check her out...glorious talent this lady!

Wish I had known this blog would've become a reality and you could've seen her light up picking and giving the perfect ones the perfect owl. She gave one to her great grandmother, my mother in love that taught me to knot! I hope you got a smile. Have a wonderful day grab that hook and that yarn and play!

And away she goes!

Hello there!

Welcome!

I'm Granny. I'm also known as Pam or Meme to my Dearhearts. I love to crochet. If you've seen me on Facebook or Ravelry you're well aware of that!

I always, always, always have some yarny goodness going around here. Sometimes I'm designing a pattern. Sometimes I'm making something cute for my grandbabies. Sometimes I'm testing a pattern out for another crafty friend. I don't know what I'd do without yarn and a hook nearby.

Anyway, I love to share all sorts of crocheted items -- stuff I make and stuff I see that other people have made that tickle me -- and thought I'd create a space where all of those lovelies could live together.

First things first. Where did I get started on this adventure?

Well, I was taught to crochet when a child by a babysitter by the name of Vicky. I quit and forgot it all really until my first child was born in 1984. My mother in love taught me again and she was a stickler for gauge and tension. Days and weeks were spent making chains consistent then SC same way. Then how to read a pattern...my first completed project was a giant granny blanket for my mama. The second was a clown for my son's first birthday.

Almost 29 years later it is still my favorite art form.

So enough about me...

I'd love to know a little about you. How did you come to find  me? Do you crochet? How did you learn?

So nice to meet you!
Granny
